The path to a customized cloud strategy

Our customer was looking for a cloud strategy that met the highest security standards while offering economic benefits. Criteria for evaluating different cloud providers and environments enabled us to find the optimal cloud solution.

Task: Strategic roadmap to a secure cloud solution

The cloud was not originally a viable solution for our customer; the company limited itself to classic architecture and maintained a "no-cloud policy". Over time, however, they shed their skepticism about the new technology and were persuaded to consider the advantages of modern cloud architecture for their own purposes as well.

Essential to this was the desire to maintain the high standards of data sensitivity and data security within the framework of a cloud solution. A thorough assessment and evaluation of the cloud providers and a strategically well thought-out and detailed project roadmap were therefore necessary for the conversion of the services.

Solution: Comparison of cloud services for specific applications

For our customer, the transition to the cloud was not to be a simple "lift and shift" strategy that maps the technical failures of the current system environment and proposes an optimized and more powerful infrastructure on this basis. Rather, we wanted to create a strategic approach based on concrete examples from the corporate culture.

To this end, we worked with the customer to select specific use cases from the current system environment that were particularly relevant for the company. Subsequently, these use cases were run through in various changeover strategies and the cloud services provided for them by different cloud providers were evaluated.

Result: An optimal cloud environment that meets all needs

The selection of use cases was not only IT-driven, but focused on the economic impact for the company as well as the development of new business opportunities. We defined use case-based cloud migration strategies, SLAs for specific classes of applications, and evaluation criteria for hybrid cloud approaches.

This approach enabled us to find a tailored cloud strategy for our client that met the needs of the business at both a technical and management level. A hybrid cloud approach to using cloud platforms with established data sensitivity and on-site data security now meets these needs.

Goals achieved

  • Planning a clear cloud strategy and roadmap precisely aligned to specific use cases, with a focus on governance and GDPR.

  • Create a hybrid cloud strategy to take advantage of cloud platforms with proven data sensitivity and on-premise data security

  • Establish evaluation criteria for all use cases to decide whether cloud platforms or on-premise solutions are more appropriate

  • Supporting the customer in the selection of the primary cloud platform partner
